I finally started on my amp project. Its a Trainwreck Rocket clone. Its basically a stripped down AC30. Here's some pics of what I've got done so far:

Ignore the red circle, its for another forum.

It's all about being the "master of your domain" (sans Seinfeld jokes).

Those Orange Drops always look like candy to me... almost ate one once...

Best of luck to you. I plan on doing a Weber amp project after I graduate next Spring.

Excellent!  Glad that you're getting it done.

BTW, the orange drops are actually not my favorite.  I like the yellow Mallory ones better.  But, I'm sure those orange drops will do the charm for you

What's that 25W 50-ohm resistor at the bottom for? A power attenuator?

Nope, heatsink

This amp is VERY simple, its got 4 knobs (volume, treble, bass, cut), no master volume. The guy who designed it, Ken Fisher, thought that master volumes, effects loops, and other things degraded tone. Now, he is dead and his amps are going for 40K

I've got a set of SOZO's lying around but I'm trying to build it as close to stock as possible the first time around, then after a few months, if I feel like it needs something, I'll change it.

'tis a shame other major amp builders don't follow his lead.

Ah yes the SOZO's... or as I call 'em, the Zep Caps ("Zoso" - Led Zeppelin IV Jimmy Page's "symbol").  Heard good things about 'em; haven't tried 'em yet.  The Orange Drops are generally preferred for Fender-style amps, and IIRC Trainwrecks were based on Fender circuits.  Memory's a bit fuzzy on that...

Not at all. There were 3 Trainwreck models. The Express which sounds like a hot-rodded marshall but completly unqiue and different, very high gain. The Liverpool which is the Express with EL84s. And the Rocket which is based on an AC30 and has way less gain than the other two, when cranked, it can get some great ACDC like rock tones.
