In need of a Fast, Beautiful, Unfinished Neck/Fingerboard! Any ideas?

I'm building a Warmoth with Alder Body, and I really want peoples dvice on gorgeous necks :)

I was originally thinking about Pau Ferro with an Ebony Fingerboard But I want people opinions on the choice, as well as any other combos you'd recommend

I recommend a neck made of Ebony, Bocote, Bloodwood, Rosewood, Padouk, Wenge, Ziricote, Canary, Purpleheart, Bubinga, Goncalo Alves, Pau Ferro, or Imbuia.
May your eyes lead you to the aesthetic of your desires.

No matter what you choose, please treat yourself to stainless steel frets and locking tuners.

I've actually even thought of a Pau Ferro neck with Pau Ferro fingerboard now Just found a picture, and it's gorgeous. What do people think?

I have an Ebony over Pau Ferro neck with SS frets, and it's been my favorite for a while. Sex on a stick, that one. It's an excellent combination that feels great and plays like magic.

But, Autobat's right - all those exotic woods are exceptionally nice. Warmoth doesn't make a "cheap" neck built to a price rather than to a performance standard, so it's pretty much a matter of finding something that has the aesthetic you want and plunking down your credit card. No matter what you pick, you're going to be happy.

And don't forget - stainless steel or gold frets!

I am in your situation (though I will not have to buy it now) and I are oriented to Goncalo/pauferro, 1-3/4", '59, 6100 SS frets (mahogany body).
Forgive me if I take advantage of your 3d but I would like to ask friends of the forum: width at XII fret of Warmoth neck is always the same, of course? (I've a pauferro/pauferro neck, 1-5/8 nut, std: it's very very thin and honestly I still don't like it too much...)

There are moments in a match when the ball hits the top of the net, and for a split second, it can either go forward or fall back. With a little luck, it goes forward, and you win. Or maybe it doesn't, and you lose...

I just wondered, would you recommend the slimmest option for the neck if you have small hands? My hands aren' the biggest in the world lol

It isn't really hand size that's the issue; it depends more on what you're comfortable with or used to. The "Standard Thin" neck is only 1/16" thinner than the '59 at the 1st fret, and only 1/10" thinner at the 12th. That's not much of a difference, although it'll feel like it is. The 1 11/16" width is only 1/16" narrower than 1 3/4", which again isn't much of a difference but it'll feel like it is.

I'm used to 1 11/16" wide Standard Thin necks so to me, even though there are only minor differences, a 1 3/4" wide '59 neck would feel like a baseball bat in my hands. But, my fingers would wrap around it just fine.

I only ask because I'm interested in both the Standard Thin and Wizard, but I'm unsure on the neck shapes. I know Wizard necks are D/U shaped all the way up, but does the Standard Thin stay C-shaped all the way, or does it flatten out nearer the higher frets?

Feels consistently shaped to me.

They don't really talk about that particular aspect of the profile, but there's a lot of other information available here if you're interested.

I have Pau Ferro/Pau Ferro on my Tele, and it's amazing. It has (unfortunately) been in storage for a few months now while I search for jobs and a new place to move to, but I got it out over Christmas and was again surprised at how smooth that neck feels. If you find one that you like the looks of, GO FOR IT.  :headbang:

How would you compare it to a Maple Neck?

You can't really compare the two, because Maple always requires a finish. Raw Maple feels pretty good, but you can't have it. If you could, it would feel very similar to Pau Ferro. So, Pau Ferro is like Maple without a condom <grin>

Ahhh! Well that explains things "much" better ;)

It all really depends on what you would like the sonic properties to be. If you like the sound of an all maple neck, then you can't go past canary with a pau ferro fingerboard.

I have one on my current telecaster project, and love it.

While everyone has their favorite wood (Cagey loves the morning variety), you won't be disappointed with any of the exotic wood options!
