Just finished my second build and am very pleased with how it turned out. Here are the specs:
Body: Mahogany hollowbody with figured Koa top and 2 F-holes and cream binding.
Bridge: recessed Gotoh tune-o-matic.
Pickups: Dimarzio PAF 36 Anniversary humbuckers
Toggle: Freeway 3x3, 6 position...
Forgot another question: grounding the bridge. I thought I'd need to ground the thimbles for the bridge, but the hole they drilled goes to the vibrato cavity. Is that fine - i.e. grounding the vibrato but not the bridge? Thanks again!
Succumbed to the temptation and bought the Koa Jazzmaster that was in the showcase. Arrived within 2 weeks which is great. This isn't my first build, but it is my first Jazzmaster, so I have a question for you guys about the routing: the pickup routing seems shallower than I'm used to (strats...
Brief update: contacted Warmoth and they gave me return shipping label so it's gone back to them to drop in the jack route for free (of course). I'm told it may take a week before shipped back to me - I certainly hope that's true, as we all know the wait on new orders is a long one. It got there...
Thanks, all - I'll give them a call on Monday. It's definitely on my original order, but I had asked about confirming ability to do the Les Paul style upper-right toggle and they confirmed that they could and issued an amended order that I now see did *not* include the jack route, for some...
Just received my Hollowbody Tele and it's quite gorgeous. Came on time (ordered early September, arrived just before Thanksgiving) and everything looks great (pics below), but it turns out Warmoth forgot to install the jack route. I'd selected the 7/8" (22mm) Side Jack Hole, but as you seen in...
Just an update of the after phots - this is after about 5 light coats of Tru Oil and a very light coat of Birchwood Casey Gun Wax. Really made the flames pop out, and it's still as smooth as can be (and not sticky/tacky). Very happy.
Thanks to you both.
Brief follow-up; if I do apply a light coat (of either Tung or Tru Oil - likely leaning on the Tru Oil side, as I've got it on hand), should I not apply it to the Pro Ferro fretboard? My initial plan is to not do the fretboard, but rather just condition it as I do other...
Ordered September 4, arrived today (November 12) - no complaints here.
Looks fantastic. Tiltback Gibson Conversion, Warmoth headstock, '59 profile in roasted flame maple with unique choice pao ferro fretboard, stainless frets, cream binding and Nightswan inlays.
Question for those with more...
I think it was George Carlin who said, "So you don't like your job? There's a support group for that; it's called "everybody" and we meet down at the bar."
Thanks, guys. I agree on all points. My main desire on the build is for the carved top and hollow construction; the Bigsby is just a "nice to have" option. I feel like I could deal with the recessed issue - I've found a number of other builders' examples using recessed bridges (G&L recess the...
Thanks everyone. I guess that's my main question and will be the dispositive point; i.e. whether or not the carve is pronounced enough at the base of the body that using a B5 won't be possible. This will be my first Warmoth carved top tele, so I've no experience on that point.
Not a deal...
Hi all - I'm gearing up for a carved-top hollow body Tele build that will have a recessed TOM bridge with string ferrules and I'm wondering if any of that might preclude me adding a Bigsby at some point in the future? I'd guess no, but thought I'd check to see if anyone has done it. I'm thinking...
