I have bought 2 GFS "XGP" bodies that were "vintage spec" spoiler alert neither were vintage spec 🤦♂️
Another disappointment is that neither body had the neck mounting holes on center.
The tele body had the bridge and bridge pickup too far back and the strat hardtail had the string through...

like the nut stays attached better? I had an issue like that on a charvel with the front mounted nut and ended up having to modify it to make it rear mount.
would that last control fit with a smaller diameter pot or does the hole destroy the screw support? You could also only drill part way leaving ~1/2" of material to accept the screw and still have room for the pot.

You have two opposing goals. LP voice and "snappy maple tone" the shorter scale length will defeat the snap of the maple and the snap of the maple even at the shorter scale length with not get you in the LP voice territory IMO.
I have looked at this a few times and it may not be a 1:1 of the Gibson spacing but fitting a parallelogram shape of 4 pot in the standard control cavity is definitely do able.
The hard part would be the upper switch but if that isnt a deal breaker then putting it in the control cavity would work.
