    The Kitty Cat Strat

6 month check in - in case anyone is using this thread for research. Love my guitar so much! The PLEK process was probably not worth it. Afterwards, the fret ends were sharp and I was charged additional to fix that - bummer. I posted in another thread about PLEK. The Lace Sensors are not that...

    The Kitty Cat Strat

Well, she's done! Really exceeded my expectations. The nicest guitar I've ever had - so many great sounds, controls exactly the way I want, plays like butter. My number one criteria for a guitar is: Tuning Stability and I'm really amazed by this one - is it the locking tuners? That I put some...

    The Kitty Cat Strat

Curious why you recommend them. Is it specific to what I mentioned above about my playing style/sound style? BTW, I went with a Lace Sensor Ultimate Triple, 10 way switch, volume pot only (got the volume pot with the kill switch). Pretty excited about the electronics, its kind of my perfect...

Absolutely logical. (Watched "Into Darkness" last night - going through a late-stage Star Trek phase....

    The Kitty Cat Strat

Good advice, will dry fit first. As that would be returning parts. doh! I thought that the 2 pieces of yarn technique for checking neck alignment was done with the string holes in the body, not with the bridge. Is that incorrect? From StewMac site.... Thanks, John

    The Kitty Cat Strat

Parts arrived very early. Folks may want to note this: ordered on Sept 29, parts arrived on Nov 23rd! I was expecting February, so my workshop (and head) were not ready. Getting there. I've come up with a plan that is a bit different than what I've seen some guys do. Strap button drilling...

Fret Wire Decision Time - First build (with photos)

You are right. I don't want to wear out my welcome here - it's so daunting and the nature of this exercise, the Warmoth site, and Internet Information (and opinion) overload is a very real thing. That said, all of the input I've been getting has been super helpful and I realized that I am trying...

Fret Wire Decision Time - First build (with photos)

John Raymond played for many years with..... Kenny G (running for cover now) I have a caliper, a great ruler, great straight edges, but my buddy lives on an island (literally) and that's where the guitar is. I already felt like I was bugging him to get the tape measure done :) To make this...

    The Kitty Cat Strat

First Time Build! Here are the plans so far. I'm asking a lot of questions in various sections of the forum, and will try and update this with links to the input I get. My goal is to gather feedback from this community and also leave information for someone like me in the future. Inspiration: a...

Fret Wire Decision Time - First build (with photos)

Homing in on my parameters - so many! Me: not really picky (ouch, bad pun), I'm the kind of player who picks up a guitar and either loves it or goes "meh" but I also put most challenges on me, not the instrument. I'm actually a bass player, but have played guitar longer, like for 45 years. I am...

StewMac Free Shipping This Weekend - what to get?

Cool tool! Beyond my skill level/bite size - I'm just gearing up for my first build ever. But excellent baseline for pricing, as I've been in contact with my local luthier who is offering a full setup including Plek for about $400. Since this tool is over $100, I think that the luthier is more...

Satin Finish Strat Hardware? (bridge, jack plate)

That's interesting, I'm PM'ing you but I am keeping a bit of the discussion in the thread to benefit others. This is leading me (as it seems everything does in this world) to other questions. Neck width. Hmmmm. This is going to be my first build, and it's overwhelming, so I was taking some...

Satin Finish Strat Hardware? (bridge, jack plate)

Yes! That Hipshot bridge caught my eye, but wow, it's expensive. Unanswerable question, but are they worth it?

Satin Finish Strat Hardware? (bridge, jack plate)

I see Fender locking strat tuners in Satin/Brushed at StewMac, but not finding much other hardware to match. There is one guy selling satin finish jack plates (cup) on eBay, but the big challenge is a hardtail bridge. I love the standard Fender American hardtail and the saddles are not shiny...

StewMac Free Shipping This Weekend - what to get?

Free shipping this weekend! I am getting into position to order my first build from Warmoth. Anything that is an obvious need/best to get from StewMac? If there are any basic items that they have, I may get them ordered and shipped, even as I wait for my neck and body to arrive. Thanks, J

Do yourself a favor and don't do what I did...

Does Warmoth have "will call" (can I pick up my order from them). I live less than an hour from Puyallup (though I don't really know how to spell it) :)

Tele pickup on Strat body (top route) - order a S/S/S Strat route?

That's a perfect solution: Tele heel on Strat body. Actually, you can also order a Tele neck with a Strat heel. Appears to give the same result. Any reason why one would be better over the other? I like your guitar! What bridge is that? Thanks, John

Tele pickup on Strat body (top route) - order a S/S/S Strat route?

I stand corrected on Ed Bickert - but not how great he is! I still want a Strat with a tele neck (because of the look of the headstock) and a tele pickup in the front position, but I am more than ready to have you guys convince me of anything. Bottom line is that I want to use the front pickup...

Tele pickup on Strat body (top route) - order a S/S/S Strat route?

Wow, what a great community, appreciate the detailed info. I don't want a Tele 2 pickup setup, I want a 3 pickup Strat, but am thinking about a tele pickup in the bridge position. I like that sound for Jazz - think Ed Bickert, if anyone knows who he is. The Charlie Christian Lollar is another...
