While imbibing adult beverage and browsing Warmoth website, I came across a screaming deal of chambered strat with figured mahogany top that I just couldn't refuse. Here it is after six coats of Formby Tung Oil Finish in satin. Not terribly imaginative but I do like the look of natural wood...
Last September my order for a Black Korina P Bass with MusicMan pickup arrived. I wasn't quite thrilled with the rather large swath of dark area but it kinda grew on me.
I finally got around to it yesterday. I used Tried and True Danish oil, which was thick but soaked into the wood quickly. ...
In the old Warmoth website, when I choose the Recessed TOM Bridge Route option it said that I should only use Gotoh TOM bridge. I thought this was because of metric dimensions.
It does not say that anymore. Is this still the case? I happened to have a set of Gotoh TOM bridge, and I did not...
I was hoping for nice streaks, but one big dark patch?
I know, it is what it is. The body is sanded very smooth and ready to go except some burn marks. Maybe I can do a reverse burst?
correction: the burn marks are actually small streaks.
Should I use long or short shaft for a rear routed control cavity? Warmoth also offers 3/5 way switch options for rear route but I've only see them installed on pick guard or plate. Will they fit properly?
Usually a 3 way Fender tele-style switch is installed under pickguard or plate. Will the blade be long enough to be installed in a rear-routed Warmoth body?
I was given this option when building a body on Warmoth website.
While looking up Watco Danish Oil on Amazon, they also listed Tried & True line of finishes, including stains and Danish oil. Supposedly they are solvent and VOC free.
Does anybody have experience with them?
I am contemplating another build with roasted swamp ash body. From look of things it darkens considerably even with clear finish. I am thinking of Watco Danish Oil Natural Finish.
For those who have done so, what finish have you used? Filler? How did you prepare the body?
Thanks.
called Dirty Fingers?
When I first heard it I thought it was named after a certain guitar player, but couldn't find any confirmation.
Anybody knows the story?
I purchased a set of Seymour Duncan JB & Jazz set of pickups from Amazon back in February. Before I first installed them I tested them with multimeter; the neck had some random reading, and bridge zero. After I installed them the whole thing was full of noise and static, though some sounds...
I am mounting humbuckers on pickguard, and when they are about level with the pickguard with some more to go the springs are pretty well compressed. Should I cut the springs down a bit or get shorter ones?
Hello all.
A little less than a year ago I saw some YouTube videos on guitar building. That got me interested and I bought one of those Chinese Les Paul guitar kit. As I started building it I started replacing kit parts with better quality ones. Eventually I got a whole new set of parts, and...
Hi all,
I assume the controls of a Starcaster is similar to that of Les Paul, with two sets of volume/tone knobs for each pickup and a toggle selector. However, I noticed that some have a fifth knob. I could not find much info and any enlightenment is appreciated.
