I do somethng really similar on my trems. It works great and the best part is that it doesn't effect the operation of the trem at all. :icon_thumright:

All I've ever done was cut a piece of a towel to lay between the springs and cover plate. I don't use the non-locking tremolos on my guitars, so I have 5 springs in there, tighten the bridge to sit flush with the body, then put that piece of towel on it all.
