Unofficial Warmoth Jam #9

Backing track here: http://www.mediafire.com/?ex8fnt4d9yec69l

It's in 115 bpm, chords are A and G major with the bass thus moving about in D major. Feels a little snappier than the last ones we've had maybe? I realise the playing is not perfectly tight, but it's been a couple of decades since I last played anything on a keyboard/piano seriously... It also adds to the charm (well that's my story at least and I'm sticking to it).

Enjoy!

Downloaded. Might have a steep learning curve before I produce anything, though, as I've upgraded my recording hardware & software today & am still installing (slowly) on my other PC.

it's fun - of course I'll be in on it  :icon_thumright:

been jamming on it for a bit and suddenly I was reminded of a popular song from the 70's. I don't want to give it away because it might influence someone's solo, but I will say that money is involved but you wont need any to come with me (if you're a single female) because I've got it covered. ;)

Glad you liked it :) I've listened a lot to Iron & Wine's The Sheperd's Dog lately, I think that's where I got the feel.

This jam expires on 30th october btw!

.wma format? Is this a joke?

It's Cubase 4LE... so in a way yes, hehe. No direct mp3 exporting, and wave files are bulkier than necessary for this. I don't see the point of exporting and then converting the damn things :p

damn! I missed it! :laughing7:

ok don't listen to these if you don't want to be influenced by them - I went in a different direction than I think most will. I'm also not sure if I want this to be first in line in the mix or not. I think the solo recording I did sounds very nice on it's own, if I do say so myself.  :laughing8:

I used my 1984 Ovation acoustic/electric - - ran it through the Cyber on a very clean setting with some reverb and a bit of quick delay. I recorded a solo first to the backing and then I had an idea to try playing chords with it. I had a reason for it and I think it worked.

seriously, someone needs to put this in a different file format (Max?) No offense but I have no idea what the crap this file type is. My motto is, if VLC won't open it, it's crap.

btw, it ias a wma.asf (a Windows-specialty file type). could you loose the .asf at least?  :tard:

Really? Weird, the .asf shouldn't be there. Sounds more like a browser/website compability issue to me actually. I'll get on it tonight after work and get a .wav up anyway.

WMA = windows media audio, another failed Microsoft attempt at forcing a "standard" down our throats... I have no idea why Cubase won't let me do a direct .mp3 export, but that's how it is.

Download Audacity for free & you can convert any file into MP3 format.

VLC does open it. Just tried it now and it plays fine.

What I do is open it with Winamp and use the DiskWritter output to convert it to a wave file.

you seem to have computer issues that no one else has. :icon_scratch:

If you just download the file there's no asf anything on it. Not sure where that's coming from. You can always rename the file. On my system it is UWJ 9 backing track.wma

Like I said above, I would download the free version of Winamp and going into the preferences -> output and chose DiskWritter. Then you play the file and it spits out a wave file. Problem solved. I do this for every file for these jams that people put up as a mp3 or wma. Makes life easier when doing the mix (I don't have to worry about how each file gets saved if I make little edits).

here is the file decoded to wave format:

this one is the same file with the intro cut off so you can loop it:
